Dear guests:

Although the SK’s encourage you to take public transit, we know that this is not an option for everyone.  Here is the information from the Second Unitarian Church’s webpage on parking/driving to the church:

“We are lucky to be located in the active and dynamic Lakeview neighborhood; however, street parking can be difficult.  There is not a parking lot at the church, but you can park for free at the Illinois Masonic Parking Garage which is just a short walk from the church!

  • You can park on any of the streets around Barry Ave. that are labeled with the 386 permit sign during the day without having to use a permit: Barry Ave., Briar Ave. (one block north of Barry), Wellington (several blocks south of Barry Ave.
  • You can park at a meter in the surrounding streets.
  • Park for free in the Illinois Masonic Parking Garage (map below) during Sunday worship hours with the use of a chaser ticket obtained at church.  Please park in #4 (East Parking Garage) which is on Halsted between Barry and Wellington. This free option is only available during Sunday worship and programming hours.

Driving Directions

Kennedy Expressway (I-94), exit at Belmont – which is Kimball Avenue Exit 45B from the north & Belmont Ave. Exit 45C from the south – drive east on Belmont about 3 miles, then turn right (south) on Clark and drive about 2 blocks to the big 3-way intersection of Clark, Halsted and Barry, (Sports Authority and Walgreens on your right, and CVS and LaSalle Bank on your left). Go through the intersection then immediately turn left on Barry in between the CVS and LaSalle Bank.

Lake Shore Drive, exit at Belmont, drive west about 3 stoplights to Clark. Turn left (South) on Clark and drive about 2 blocks to the big 3-way intersection of Clark, Halsted and Barry, (Sports Authority and Walgreens on your right, and CVS and LaSalle Bank on your left). Go through the intersection then immediately turn left on Barry in between the CVS and LaSalle Bank.”

For inquiring minds: this is technically an “informal” wedding, but you are welcome to get dolled up as much as you’d like.  We will be in our Sunday best, but you can feel free to wear your studded leath dress shorts, a lumberjack hat, something stolen off the Sarah Palin campaign dress dowry, your mom’s droopy bowed secretary dress from the early 1980s with spectator pumps, or a waistcoat with a metal chain.  It’s all good.

In honor of NYC fashion week, we present to you the latest buzz fashion: the designer, dress sweatpants (source):

Here at SK-squared central, we’re not so big on traditions, except the ones that are really awesome.  In a shout out to the wedding traditions of industrial-town Americans in the midwest and northeast, we will have a cookie reception, and there will be home baked deliciousness.

The lovely and talented Anne of Shepwell Kitchen has graciously volunteered.  We’re drooling in anticipation.

We will also be blessed with cookie contributions from wonderful family members as well.

The ceremony will be held at the Second Unitarian Church, 656 West Barry, Chicago, (773) 549-0260.

It’s very pretty, and not far from transit (Belmont Brown and Red line).  This stretch of Clark is quite ugly, and I apologize in advance for the weird stretch of dismal big box stores along “Route 1.”  It is important to cross Clark first before walking down the street or you will be hit by one of those Chicago multi-intersections of doom.  Or, for the more exercise oriented, consider slightly less ugly but longer “Route 2.”
